Oxford Program

oxford images An organized trip to the Inns of Court and Royal Courts of Justice in London and an evening of Shakespeare at Stratford are included in the program fee.

Oxford is one of the greatest architectural treasures of the world. Examples of every architectural style in England from the 11th to 21th century are present. It is the seat of one of the two European universities that has preserved the medieval collegiate system.

London is one hour away by frequent train or bus service: all of England, Scotland and Wales are a short and fairly inexpensive distance from Oxford.

Information regarding travel, the location of St. Edmund Hall, book lists and initial assignments will be mailed by April 1. Materials for certain courses must be purchased in the United States prior to leaving for England. Florida State assumes no responsibility for transportation of students to or from Oxford.

Helpful Information

Admissions Policies
The Summer Program in Law at Oxford is open to students in good standing in an American Bar Association- approved or Canadian recognized law school and to graduates of such law schools. Graduate students in other fields may be considered based on the relevancy of their field of study. Students are accepted on a first-come, first served basis.

Students who are not from Florida State University must submit a letter of good standing from their dean (or designee) by April 1.

Examinations begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon. If a student has two examinations on the same day, one will be rescheduled. Each course consists of 20 class meetings of 70 minutes held on a rotating schedule that changes from week to week.

Course(s) for which enrollment is low may be cancelled. Florida State University reserves the right to cancel the program in compelling circumstances. In such case, all fees would be returned.

Financial Aid
Federally guaranteed financial aid must be processed through the student's home institution. Because loan application deadlines vary, you should verify your school's deadline immediately. Florida State University is able to facilitate loan applications for non-FSU students by entering into an SFA Consortium Agreement with the primary institution. Florida State would be considered the "host institution" in this agreement.

Deferment of program fees may be possible if you are approved for financial aid. Deferment options differ between FSU and non-FSU students. Students indicating on their applications that they will be applying for financial aid will receive an appropriate deferment form, which will be due by April 1.

The agreement with St. Edmund Hall requires that students enrolled in the program occupy college facilities. Most rooms are single; linens, blankets and towels are provided. It may be possible to arrange for a family member to accompany a student by contacting Alberto Lopez, 850-645-7527, alopez@law.fsu.edu.  Information regarding duration of stay and age of child must be provided.  St. Edmund Hall has final approval and costs will be determined by the FSU International Programs Office.  If approved, application instructions for family or guests will be provided.

On class days, St. Edmund Hall provides breakfast, lunch and morning coffee. A pub and common room are available for student and faculty enjoyment. No weekend meals are served.
